Other tunnels of the Irwell Valley.

The tunnels associated with Wet Earth Colliery are not the only underground entrances to be seen on the banks of the River Irwell at Clifton. There are many other tunnel entrances. The passages of these tunnels are all however either silted up with river mud, collapsed or go in only a very short distance. All have been explored and recorded by the Wet Earth Exploration group. Apart from casual interest, they are dangerous if entered by anyone not suitably equipped. They should not be entered under any circumstances by members of the public. Many of the tunnels may be connected to old coal mine workings and could contain dangerous and fatal gas.
